DEIF describes IOM 4.2 as a multifunctional interface for sensors and for interfacing other systems through analog and digital signals. The module provides six temperature inputs, four analog current inputs, four analog current outputs, 12 standard digital inputs, four individually isolated frequency/digital inputs, and 10 digital outputs.
Product Introduction
The DEIF IOM 4.2 is the general-purpose field-interface module within the Delomatic 400 control architecture. Unlike a simple digital I/O card, it combines temperature measurement, analog process signals, speed/frequency pickup inputs, conventional digital signals, and proportional analog outputs in one module. This makes it suitable for generator, turbine, and auxiliary-system control where several signal types must be handled by the same controller.
In a typical DM-400 installation, IOM 4.2 modules work alongside the PCM 4.3 main control/power module and, where generator electrical measurement is required, the SCM 4.1 AC measurement module. Multiple IOM 4.2 modules can be installed when the application requires additional field I/O.

Application Scenarios & Field Pitfalls — Engineer’s Perspective
Engineering Pain Point
The IOM 4.2 often carries signals from several different parts of a generator package. A replacement therefore needs to match the original signal assignment, not merely the module designation. Incorrect sensor type, polarity, analog scaling, or RPM-input wiring can produce control errors even when the module itself is healthy.
Typical Applications
- DEIF Delomatic 400 generator control systems
- Gas-engine generator monitoring and control
- Hydro turbine speed-governor systems
- Generator auxiliary-system monitoring
- Temperature, pressure, position, and process-signal acquisition
- Speed/RPM pickup measurement
- AVR, governor, or frequency-converter analog setpoint interfaces
DEIF’s DM-400 Hydro configurations use IOM 4.2 modules for combinations of Pt100 inputs, 4–20 mA/0–10 V process inputs, ±20 mA outputs, digital inputs, high-speed inputs, and digital outputs.
Technical Pitfalls to Avoid
- Do not treat every temperature channel as universally interchangeable.
The six temperature channels can be configured for Pt100/Pt1000 or alternatively Type K thermocouples. Confirm the original application before changing sensor wiring. - Check the analog-output load.
The four analog outputs are ±20 mA, 10-bit, with a maximum burden of 500 Ω. This matters when the outputs drive governors, AVRs, valve interfaces, or frequency converters. - Protect the RPM/frequency inputs from wiring mistakes.
The four frequency/digital inputs are individually galvanically isolated and can measure signals up to 20 kHz. These are not equivalent to the ordinary 12 digital inputs. - Verify external power for digital outputs.
The 10 digital outputs require an external 9–36 VDC supply and support loads up to 200 mA. Do not assume the IOM module internally supplies the field load.

Procurement & Replacement Check
Before purchasing a DEIF IOM 4.2, verify:
- Exact designation: IOM 4.2
- Delomatic generation: DM-400 / Delomatic 400
- Gas, hydro, or other application variant
- Number of IOM 4.2 modules installed
- Original module position and I/O assignment
- Pt100/Pt1000 versus Type K configuration
- 4–20 mA input scaling
- ±20 mA output scaling and connected load
- RPM/frequency pickup type and frequency range
- Digital input polarity
- External digital-output supply voltage
- PCM 4.3 compatibility
- Application software and configuration backup
- Terminal wiring and connector condition
Recommended procurement description:
DEIF IOM 4.2 Multifunction I/O Module, Delomatic 400 DM-400, 6 Temperature Inputs, 4 × 0/4–20 mA Analog Inputs, 4 × ±20 mA Analog Outputs, 12 Digital Inputs, 4 Isolated Frequency Inputs, 10 Digital Outputs.
The key distinction is that IOM 4.2 is the multifunction field-I/O module of the DEIF Delomatic 400 system. Its value is the combination of process, temperature, speed, digital, and proportional-control interfaces in one module; for a replacement, the original I/O assignment and sensor configuration should be checked before commissioning.
